My paneling is very old/dull.... would it be best to wall paper over it or paint it?

I mean it is veryyy dull (kitchen) its "supposed" to have flowers on it and even those are dull. Stains that i cant remove etc... I MUST find a way to cover it.

My paneling is very old/dull.... would it be best to wall paper over it or paint it?
Painting will definitely help. You may want to use a stain concealer that the flowers will not bleed through the paint.

You can go into various sites such as Home Depot and The Martha Stewart site for ideas and color suggestions.

Wallpapering is practically useless over paneling, it will not adhere well, and you can end up with bubbling and peeling.
Reply:Remove cabinets.

remove old paneling.

Install new drywall.

Prime new drywall.(latex)

Paint new drywall.(latex)

reinstall cabinets.

Wallpaper border next to ceiling.

Painting or papering over paneling will just look bad.

So, do it right the first time, because you may be looking at

it for a long time. %26lt;}:-})
Reply:At one point I moved in my dad's trailer. It was awful with brown cheap wood paneling plus you could even see ugly faces in it. Since it wasn't flat, I antiqued it(years ago it was popular) and got a nice light finish that made the place look much bigger. They have so many different finishes now there is no reason to have dull faded anything. Never wallpaper over uneven surfaces. If it is flat, do whatever is you.
Reply:In order to paint it you will have to seal it first (KILZ works pretty good as both a sealent and a stain cover) , if you don't seal it first it will take up to 3 or 4 coats of paint and then it may look odd. As with painting you'll have to seal it to paper it (I'm not sure what you would use to do that tho. It would have to be glue friendly.) But I think Paper would look better,
Reply:paint it that's we did in our basement it looks fine u cant even tell its paneling
Reply:i would paint it my friend had the wood panels in his house and he painted them and it really made the rooms looker bigger and more brighter
Reply:wall paper or removal.
Reply:you can paint over it. we did and it was for the same reason. I would suggest using a good primer first and in the kitchen i would use a durable paint that would stand up to everyday kitchen mess ups %26amp; clean ups. hope this helps!!
Reply:would paint it. From watching HGTV, you might have to lightly sand it and put on a coat of primer first.
Reply:I would say painting... it there is any difference in texture it would show up. Ask the workers at Home Depot or Lowes they KNOW that stuff.
