I'm making flower pedals out of crepe paper and wanted to know how I can get them to be a bit firmer...I was thinking of spraying them with spray starch.....any idea's?

Reply:This was a very popular craft in the 60's(flower children). The way it is done, is to dip the flowers in melted wax.Suspend the dipped petals upside down to drip off the excess wax,scrape off the excess and continue on to assemble your flowers. WORKS.

How it looks -Does your toilet paper had teddy bears ?
Ok sounds like an stupid question !...but realize we have at our markets toilet paper with teddy bears ,flowers scented....you name it ! -------------and we buy it!

Would it be the done thing to paper a sunroom rather than paint?
This is a south facing room, gets hot sun from may to september(UK ) but very cold and hardly used winter months. i've seen beautiful paper, colour and big bold flower which would i think look lovely. Advice please.

i have that problem with mine.my son is going to put wood on the bottom tong and groove i think its called will paint it white then put this gorges lime paper i have seen on top part and i got a lime green door curtain with beads to match up. hope it will work as you say it gets cold and to much wallpaper doesn't work.you can only try.
Reply:In my experience...paint will hold up to the weather conditions you are describing much better than wallpaper. The paper will fade much more quickly than paint and will also start to lift and peel from being exposed to the dramatic weather differences.
There are paints, on the other hand, that are designed to be weather and fade resistant.
Here's an idea...why not paint and then do some fun stenciling for added color and dimension. I know it's not wallpaper, but I think you'll save yourself a LOT of maintenance in the future.

Where can I get flowers made of paper for a first wedding anniversary?
You can create some yourself by geting some tissue paper at a craft or party store and some pipe cleaners in green. I know that marthastewart.com has explanations of how to do it. Also in the latest Matha's Weddings (or wedding flowers? I can't remember the name) magazine there is an explanation and pictures on how to do it. I know it's in the latest one because I looked at it in a Michaels store on the magazine rack towards the front of the store. Hope this helps, and have an excellent day!

I am looking to make seeded paper by hand for wedding favors at my June wedding. Because I don't want to be doing everything at once, I thought I would start making the paper now. It involves putting flower seeds in the paper mixture. If anyone has done this...how long will the paper keep before the flowers start to sprout?

They will not sprout, keep the dry and they will be fine. I did these in high school art class, over 18 years ago. And I just looked at them aging about a monuth ago, and they are fine just like the day a made them.

My bathrm is a lightish pink, toliet, sink, tub. Over my mirror is flowered wall paper. What colors can I use?
I'm not looking to change my the color of the tub or anything else. I just need to know what colors will go good with lightish pink. I need to change that wall paper and accesorize. I've used Burgundy in the past but I'm tired of looking at that color. I am going to redo my tile on the floor so suggestions will be nice. Thanks

And if you are looking to turn down the pink a little, use light green toliet covers to cover the lid and the back part. (unless the whole entire toliet is pink, and not just the lid, otherwise just do without the covers for the toliet because it will look crazy). Just use light green accessories like floor mats towels, and shower curtain. Just little things like soap holders and things. If you use it on the walls to it will tune down the pink and will look fresh like spring time. Good luck!

How can i make a sphere from a flat sheet of paper ?

I actually did that for a girlfriend one time for Valentine's Day. I just used red and green construction paper, green for the stem of course, and just rolled that very tight. And then the red paper I cut strips out and rolled that around a pen but rolled it like corner to corner and then i taped the outside and took the pen out and let the inside kinda unravel. so it looks like a rose. they came out pretty nice. Hope this helps

stack the different colored sheets of tissue paper (have them be in a medium sized square but you could mess around with the size)- probably about 3 colors per flower
then fold the paper, and kinda shape it a little
take a pip cleaner and poke it in the middle- you may need to secure it with tape or staples
then cut down the paper if you wish, make the stem have leaves, and put it in a vase...

You can use any size paper bags. I like to use 3 paper bags that measure approximately 12"x6" that will create an album around 6"x6". you can use much smaller bags to make a super mini album around 3"x3".

To make tags or pullouts, measure the available size for the pockets and tri-fold a long piece of paper or cut tags to match theme. I have made these with girls as young as 5. It's best to dry them slowly. I use wax paper between paper towels and a big thick Phone book, it takes about two weeks.

I am starting to make paper albums to sell on eBay and I'm not quite sure how much I should spend on them. Whats a reasonable amount to spend and still make a good amount of money back???
Also, I've been shopping at michaels, joanns, hobby lobby, walmart, etc. and I don't feel like I should be spending $4 for 12 flowers all the time. Is there some place that wholesale sells scrapbook items (embellishments, flowers, paper) online that anyone knows of?

Look around your house for recycleable items -- one of my favourite embellishments is the plastic mesh onion bags! the inside of potato chip bags gives you a wonderful silver paper that costs a fortune at Micheal's -- magazine clippings -- I have a expandable file with all sorts of images that I have cut out and use depending on the subject -- take a look at some of your old clothes -- t-shirts that have no use can be cut into thin "strings" and used to embellish, you can tie them or sew them right onto the pages, same with buttons or buckles or any type of attachment on old clothes. Unravel the yarn from and old sweater, or scarf -- use an old scarf, cut up. You need to look at everything you throw in the garbage before you throw it away. Pop cans can be cut open and holes punched and attached as a frame, or write on them for a raised type of printing...
Another source of classy papers is the paint and wallpaper store, you can usually get the old wallpaper books for free or for a small price -- I have paid $4 for a huge wallpaper sample book that would be equal to a $40 pack of papers at Micheals...
And as in the previous answer, don't forget your local thrift stores -- silk flowers, laces, ribbons, old magazines and books.
If you buy stuff new, you will have the same looking product as everyone else. You need to source your supplies from unusual places. If you buy online your prices will not be much different and on top of it you have to pay shipping costs too. Look in your own house and yard for unusual things, look at things differently than everybody else and you will begin to have a 'style' of your own, that buyers will begin to look for.

Reply:Flowers are a huge $ suck. I recommend watching the dollar spot at Target when they have flowers there. I just bought a couple multicolored lei's there. I took the lei's apart and have more flowers than I know what to do with! Watch sales. Buy silk flowers on the stem and take them apart.

As far as the wholesale prices on scrapbook items: most manufacturers require you to have a business license (because they do not charge you sales tax) in order for you to purchase. You most likely will also have a minimum purchase requirement.
You can get a business license pretty cheap by simply filing under your social security number at your local government licensing office. I think mine was $100.
Once you have your bus. license number, just look for the manufacturer's name on the items you buy the most and search for them on the web. I did this when looking for double sided tape and packaging and saved up to 50% off of retail pricing. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I am making a faux finish to look like homemade paper with flowers in it. Anyone have a paint to paper ratio?
I have tried a craft paint called paper perfect and its great, but it costs $4.50 for an 8 oz jar and most places have discontinued it. I have been having a hard time finding it at all and the company has not responded to my emails.
So, I was wondering if anyone has made a paper paint for themselves and knew the ratio of paint, paper pulp and water to use? I can experiment, but thought I would ask here first.
Any suggestions or tips on how to make homemade paper would be appreciated as well.

I don't exactly recommend having those as the only boquet. I mean keep a real one by you and a fake one. you can have these paper flowers to give to your guests as a "thank you for attending" gift. by the way, i think you will love this quote i found online:

How to make easy 3-D paper flowers?
The fasted and easiest way to make paper flowers is to take a rectangle piece of paper. then take markers and make long strips of color. Then roll it up around a pencil. then remove from pencil and cut with scissors about 3/4 of the way down the tube- in narrow strips - the slim petals will droop over, or mak ethem droop over. That's all you have to so. You can dd paper staimans to the inside and tape to a paper stem with a paper leaf.
