We don't have money to replace the counter top so the easiest thing to do is to paint the walls to make it look nice. Right now it just has typical ugly flower wall paper the house was made in the early 80's but seemed to have used rejected 70's wallpaper!
I have a orange/tan marble top in my bathrm, the house was made in the 80's. what colors can i paint the walls
Check out a color called "medici ivory" by sherwin williams:

Reply:My suggestion is to remove the wallpaper. I think painting the bathroom a warm tan (on the light side) would work. Then get towels and shower curtains, if you're willing to decorate that much, in the same tone. If you are looking for a spa like feel go with solid print shower curtain with a waffle weave.
Reply:Pick the most muted shade of tan in the marble. Paint three of the four walls this color. Paint the wall opposite the counter the most attractive shade of orange in the marble (maybe a muted orange or burnt orange). By doing this, you make the bathroom take on a more contemporary design. The orange wall will display your "accent color" in the room, thus making the orange marble counter top look like it was put there by you on purpose. If you have a shower curtain in the room, keep that simple - a cream color - a shade or two lighter than the tan walls. Any artwork in the room should be kept to an abstract feel (no flowers, no scenes) to avoid having too much "going on" in the room, as far as color pallettes. The art should draw in one or more of the colors used throughout. No border paper...it would be too busy, maybe a crown moulding.
Good luck!
(Don't forget to remove the wall paper before painting it...or the paint won't come out very nice.)
Reply:hmmmm a light pink, a tericotta(maybe too much orange), if u would add a pic of counter top it would be helpful!
Reply:take the most interesting color you can find in that marble, and use it as the wall color.
Reply:Not really a bad thing, since those colors are becoming hot again.
This link will give you some good ideas on what specific paint colors you can use to match up with orange.
The article that applies is about half way down the page.

LOL
Reply:Is it real marble or the fake stuff? I wonder if you can paint it?
Reply:Sometimes making the older things disappear as if you intended them is the best way to work around them. If you want to play down the countertop go brighter with the walls like orange. If you go with a cream or tan the countertops will be the focal point as the brightest color in the room.
Reply:My house was built in the 70's so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! My bathroom had MARY KAY PINK ceramic tile. (that finally got re-done) my kitchen has HORRIBLE flower wallpaper so I KNOW Exactly what you are talking about! EXACTLY!!!! I am not a fan of palm trees but you could do that. You could paint the walls cream or khaki color. Hope this helps! My house needs updating too!
Reply:tan and hang up some art work
Reply:i would go for a cream or a natural Hessian we did and it looks great
Reply:Ha ha! Sounds exactly like my old countertop! Notice the past tense, but it did take years of tolerating the old one before we got our new one.
What we did in our bathroom was theme it--we actually had an Indian theme for awhile and switched to Safari. The walls were painted a deep tan colour, and all of the fixtures were gold. We put in an antiqued mirror with lil gold swirlies you could see if you looked closely, and we spent all of MAYBE $100 on everything. Paint was Behr on sale for $15/can, primer was $12. New faucet fixture was $28, and the bathtub fixtures were $30. We even got one of those rain showerheads, which was really cool! I had a friend come in and use a gold spraypaint on the metal parts of the toilet and chrome towel bars, and though it took a few hours, the paint itself was a whopping $5 at WalMart.
I bought tiger striped fabric and made a shower curtain and just used a clear liner for our safari theme, and for the indian theme I used orange, red, bright pink, and gold taffeta cloth for the shower curtain with tassel tie-backs and a liner. Our floormats are cream, so they matched both themes well enough.
Do be careful when removing the wallpaper, and be sure to remove the wallpaper--paint doesn't stick well to it, and the moisture will just make the paper peel off.
We ended up remodeling our bathrooms 2 years ago and now their stark white and chrome...rather hospital-ish to be honest. I miss the vibrant colors, but not much looks good when everything is whitewashed or frosted. Whatever you end up doing, have fun!
