Has anyone tried embedding flower seeds into hand made paper?
I plan on making all the paper I'll need for my wedding to save money and be environmentally friendly. I've heard people embed flower seeds into the paper sometimes so paper can be planted and the seeds will grow. I was just wondering if anyone had tried this and whether it worked ok or not?
Thanks! :)

Making handmade plantable paper is a beautiful way to share the beauty and bounty of your flower and vegetable garden with fellow gardeners, while recycling paper into garden compost. You can modify the following directions to create inexpensive ornaments, invitations and note cards-or whatever your creative imagination can dream up!
This recipe assumes your paper will end up planted, and avoids the use of chemicals, inks and dyes that can be harmful to growing plants and the environment. Different papers will produce different effects so have fun experimenting with colors, textures and weight.
Good Paper Choices:
Unprinted computer paper
Newspaper (usually printed with soy inks-will cause grayish color)
Magazines (avoid high-gloss)
Egg Cartons
Toilet Paper
Paper Bags (grocery store bags)
Non Waxed Boxes (require pre-soaking in water)
Office Paper/Junk Mail
Tissue Paper
Napkins
Construction Paper
Old Greeting Cards
Phone Book Pages
Other Supplies:
Blender or food processor
Sponge
Wooden or Plastic Frame (old picture frames work well)
Screen or cheesecloth (window and door screen works best)
Staples or tacks (for tacking screen to frame)
Small Plastic Washtub or basin (large enough to immerse frame in)
Turkey-baster
Several squares of felt (white, not colored), flannel or old dishtowels (larger than frame)
Cookie sheets or newspapers (for stacking paper on to dry)
Directions:
1. Tear Paper into nickel-sized pieces, or use a paper shredder and place in blender (to half full). Make sure to remove any staples! You can also add bits of hemp or other natural fibers that may be safely composted once planted. Fill the blender with warm water. Blend for about 60 second on low to medium speed. Continue to increase the speed until no paper flakes remain and pulp appears smooth.
2. Now make a mold by tightly tacking screen or mesh onto a frame of the desired size.
3. Fill the washtub about half full of water and pour in pulp from blender. Add in at least 3 blender loads of paper-more if desired (the more pulp, the thicker the paper). Add in flower or vegetable seeds. Small, flat seeds like, forget-me-not, hollyhock, chili pepper and tomato seeds work wonderfully. Stir the mixture.
4. Slip the frame into the washtub, gently moving it from side to side to get the pulp around to the top of the frame level and to the desired thickness. Let the layer of pulp settle and slowly lift the frame up so it is above water level. Let it drain for a moment and check to see if it is level. Fill the turkey-baster with pulp from the washtub and use it to fill in any uneven spots or gaps in the pulp.
5. After removing the frame from the water, let it drain. When it stops dripping, carefully lay the frame (pulp side down) onto a fabric square or an old dishcloth. Use the sponge to press out as much water as possible (wring excess water back into tub).
6. This step may take some practice to master so be patient. Holding the fabric square flat, slowly lift up and remove the frame. The wet paper should remain on the fabric. If the paper sticks to the screen, you may have pulled too fast or not pressed enough water out of the paper. Once you successfully remove the frame, gently smooth out any noticeable air bubbles or rough edges.
7. Keep repeating steps 4-6 and stack the fabric squares (or dish towels) on a cookie sheet. When finished, place a piece of cardboard on top of the last piece and use bricks or another cookie sheet to press out the remaining water in the stack.
8. Gently separate sheets and dry them on a clothesline or out in the sun for 12-24 hours. When they are dry, gently separate the paper from the fabric squares (or dish towels).
For great gifts, use cookie cutters or stencils to trace holiday shapes. Cut them out and attach a ribbon for thoughtful gifts that last beyond the holiday season. Other uses for home made paper include scrapbooks, stationary and note cards, journal or photo album covers, lampshades, etc.
Don't Forget the Instructions for Planting
Tear off bits of paper containing seed and plant directly in the ground-the paper will compost naturally. To pre-sprout the seeds, place dampened paper into a plastic bag and check periodically that paper remains moist. Keep the plastic bag at the appropriate temperature until seeds sprout and transplant them into pots or directly into the garden.

Reply:I make little favors by soaking used paper overnight, then blending with more water, pressing into into candy molds and then poking in a few seeds. You can pop it out of the mold after a few minutes and just let it air-dry.
You can also mix the seeds right in with your slurry when you pull the molds, or press it into the sheets while they're drying. I've had good luck with pumpkin seeds, cosmos, and tomatoes.

Thanks! :)

One of my neighbour's kids wanted to know how to fold a paper flower?
http://www.origami-instructions.com/orig... has a rose lilly and tulip which are quite easy
http://home.comcast.net/~meenaks/diagram... bit more complex but some really nice designs
Some of the sites have rubbish diagrams but i have used the above and they have good pictures.
A water lilly is a speciality:
take a square piece of paper and fold all four corners into the centre making a smaller square.a good way to find the centre is to fold in half in both directions) Again, fold all four corners of the new square into the centre making a smaller suare still. Turn the square over (so the folds are facing away) and fold all four corners into the centre (last time i promise). Turn over again and it should look like you have four little squares. In turn fold each one of these squares back wards over the corner (be careful as you don't want them to tear, these will be the petals) Once you have done this there will be four more squares. open these out flat as these are the leaves. Turn over and hey presto you have a water lilly. Works great with coloured paper.
Hope this was not too confusing
Reply:you should have smacked em on the mouth
Reply:The only paper flowers I remember how to make were made out of kleenex tissues. You lay a good amount of them in a neat stack, then fold them accordian style. Tie them in the middle, then spread the individual sheets apart on each end. Shape to make a flower. You can always use a green pipe cleaner for the stem.

Where can I find someone online who makes paper flower bouquets?
My friends 1st wedding anniversary is next weekend and I figured this would be nice. Has to be in the UK
Where can I find someone online who makes paper flower bouquets?
1. Refer to "How to Make Tissue Paper Flowers," "How to Make Paper Sunflowers," "How to Make Paper Roses" and "How to Make Mother's Day Flowers" for instructions and ideas on creating paper flowers.
2. Choose materials for your paper flowers in Mom or Grandma's favorite colors. Does she have a favorite flower? Why not try to make a paper version of it?
3. Make a papier-mch vase or other decorative container in which to present your bouquet. Decorate your container with a painted image of one or more of the flowers in your bouquet. Sign and date your container as well.
4. Wrap a bouquet in green, white or other colored tissue paper (as is done with some fresh flower bouquets). Decorate the tissue paper with decorative stamps, paint, crayons or markers.
5. Add scent to your bouquet by either spraying your bouquet lightly with a floral perfume or by tucking a small floral sachet into the vase or container. Choose scents that represent the flowers given. A sachet with rose petals would be perfect for a bouquet of paper roses.
6. Add baby's breath or other dried foliage to your bouquet to give the flowers a more realistic look.
7. Choose a flower to make and then make different sizes of that flower for your bouquet. You can also make that flower in a variety of colors. For example, combine white, red, yellow and pink roses of varying sizes in your bouquet.

I think it was made by Milton Bradley or Hasbro. It was probably around in like the late 80's or the early 90's.

What is the Japanese word for paper flower making? Could you recommend a book? :)?
although not common, or officially Japanese, the term Oribana can be found used for the making and arranging of paper flowers
it is a portmanteau word combining the Japanese arts of Origami and Ikebana
Amazon has nothing using the word in a title but you can try here

Happy May Day! Do you make paper flower baskets and hang them on your friends' doorknobs?
here's an adorable idea from Family Fun magazine.
http://jas.familyfun.go.com/arts-and-cra...
You can make paper flowers for the bee basket, pick a few wild ones or buy some inexpensive carnations.
A fun twist would be just to leave a basket with flowers on a neighbors front steps with a poem celebrating May Day and welcoming spring. Then you can instruct them to copy the poem and leave some flowers and the basket on another neighbors step until everyone has experienced a random act of kindness.
This would be great anytime...May Day, or any day!
Happy May Day! Do you make paper flower baskets and hang them on your friends' doorknobs?
Not A Good Idea Here. Its Raing Pretty Bad. But Happy May Day.
Reply:I remember in elementary school we used to make the paper flowers and baskets - we even had a maypole in the classroom that we tried to dance around. But then again, it was the 70's and I lived in a very rural town, so it didn't take much to entertain the masses! :)
Reply:no, never heard of doing that

Reply:We did this when I was a boy. My son brought one home several years ago and I had forgotten about Mayday, I thought it was for Mother's day. We hid it in with my underwear. Later that day he gave it to her, he knew I was wrong. AT school they asked what the kids did with their may baskets and he said "put it in my dad's underwear drawer". I asked for that one.
Reply:I absolutly love Mayday! i think it is sad how nobody knows about it. me and my sister baked all these cookies and put them in cute bags with ribbon and put them on our friends doorsteps, nobody here knows what it is but its an awesome holiday. Reply:I've never made paper flower baskets. When I was little, we always ate a ton of strawberries in the weeks leading up to May Day. We would weave ribbons in and out of the holes in the green plastic containers the strawberries came in. Then we'd fill them with wildflowers that we picked, and hang them on the neighbors doors. It was a lot of fun. It's a tradition I'm going to start with my son, once I can find strawberries in the little green baskets.

Reply:May Day is my favorite day of the year.
I always start the day by playing the song, "The Lusty Month of May," from Camelot, as loud as I can!
I always used to pick daffodils, put them in a paper basket, leave them at my neighbor's door, ring the doorbell, and run away as fast as I could. She would call my mother and say, "I just received the most beautiful flowers and can't imagine who they might be from!"
It took me years to figure out that she knew they were from me!
Now my sons leave tulips for our neighbors on each side of us. Sadly no one has ever called.........but we continue anyhow.
Happy May Day!

How do I wax a tissue paper flower?
I recieved beautiful crete paper roses and would like to wax therm. i am afraid to dunk them in the wax? Is there a spray so i can add a glossy look without damaging them?
How do I wax a tissue paper flower?
Why would you want to use wax? You can seal them with any type of an artist's clear spray gloss acrylic paint. It comes in high gloss (shine) or matt finish (no gloss/shine, just seals %26amp; coats). You'll need to do this outside %26amp; in several applications to get a really shiny glossy finish on them. It's much better then wax, as you can easily wash it when you need to %26amp; it doesn't melt in the summer heat! When I was a kid, we called them crepe paper flowers, because we bought %26amp; used colored crepe paper to make them!
Reply:Thanks %26amp; I hope my answer helped you! Report It

It's much better then wax, as you can easily wash it when you need to %26amp; it doesn't melt in the summer heat! When I was a kid, we called them crepe paper flowers, because we bought %26amp; used colored crepe paper to make them!

Prevent water from seaping thru paper mache flower vase?
I have a paper mache built flower vase. Is their a water repellent other than epoxy that I can paint on the bottom of the paper mache vase that when the vase is filled with water the water wion't leak out. Thanks
Prevent water from seaping thru paper mache flower vase?
Pour melted candle wax in it and swirl vase so wax coats entire inside.
Reply:You could try a Polyeurethane spray.
I'm assuming however that anything you use, especially on the exterior might damage or weaken the piece and/or any design on it.
Certainly for the interior the wax and plastic liner are valid suggestions. I guess I'd have to wonder why not just use it as a decorative piece with quality silk flowers?
Reply:Line the inside of the vase with plastic.
Reply:Dumbass, paper mache is not waterproof. Use artificial flowers. BTW, it's THERE not their.

Paper white flower?
how do u take care of a paper white flower
Paper white flower?
Once you have your set of bulbs blooming, keep them always moist, and, if possible, VERY cool during the evenings. Remember, these are bulbs that are used to blooming after a full, cold winter.
Reply:Actually, paperwhites should never be chilled. They are the only narcissus that should not. Report It
Reply:What they say. When they are through blooming, cut the flower stem and keep them wet, if they are growing in water, until spring. If they are growing in soil, treat them like a normal houseplant. In the spring plant them in your garden. They won't bloom again this year, but they will next year.
Reply:Inside, just keep it wet. the flowers only last a week or so. then they die and the plant goes back to the bulb for next year's blooms.

I need a catchy name AND slogan for my paper flower business, one that will make people want to buy some?
For example: Paper Flower Inc.
But don't use that one.
***TIP: They come in all colors, except black and brown.
If you don't answer the question (I need a NAME AND SLOGAN), I will report abuse.

Tissue Paper Flower?
How do you make a tissue paper flower.I don't get the part when you put the stem in the middle.I mean do I make a hole and put the pipe cleaner in.Or tie it.but if you tie it then how do you tie it like do you do a knot or something? Please help (because my friend is coming tomorow and is rubbing that in that she can make one and she won't teach me)
Tissue Paper Flower?
well you wrap it around the middle of the paper after you fold it. then you bring both end up and wrap the bottom of the flower. it should hold without knotting.
Reply:If you are using a pipe cleaner, you wrap the top of the pipe cleaner around the center and twist! You only need to wrap a small part of the pipe cleaner around so it almost looks like a "P".
